Summer is almost over, but it's not too late to make some fun pillow accessories to remind us of cool treats and cooler days ahead. These fun Popsicle Pillows are quick to sew and will definitely brighten up any child's room when made with fun fabrics from Ann Kelle.
Download the FREE Popsicle Pillow pattern pieces (link below) and make up a freezer full of pillows in two variations. The tutorial shown below depicts a tri-colored popsicle pillow using three different fabrics pieced together to make the popsicle. A solid colored popsicle may be sewn by using the Solid Popsicle pattern piece in lieu of the Tri-Color Popsicle pattern pieces (Top, Middle, and Bottom).
Fabrics used to make my pillows include Ann Kelle's Remix prints and Kona Cotton Solids all by Robert Kaufman.
Let's get started!
Step 1: Cut out 2 of each pattern piece: Popsicle Top, Popsicle Middle, Popsicle Bottom, and Popsicle Stick. Fold the Bottom and Stick pieces in half along the width and mark the center on edges where pieces will be joined.

Step 1: Cut out 2 of each pattern piece: Popsicle Top, Popsicle Middle, Popsicle Bottom, and Popsicle Stick. Fold the Bottom and Stick pieces in half along the width and mark the center on edges where pieces will be joined.
Step 2: With right sides together and matching center marks, pin the short straight edge of the Stick to the curved edge of the Bottom pattern piece. Next, pin the top of the Bottom and one long edge of the Middle together with right sides together. Lastly, match the remaining long edge of the Middle to the straight edge of the Top and pin.
Step 4: Press open the two upper seams and press the bottom seam toward the Stick.
Step 5: Repeat Steps 2-4 for the remaining pattern pieces.
Step 6: With right sides together and matching seams, pin the two assembled popsicle pillow sides together.
Step 7: Starting along one side of the popsicle, sew around the edges of the pillow using a 1/4" seam allowance and leave the area of the Middle section open for turning the pillow right side out and inserting the fiber fill. Backstitch at the beginning and ending of the seam.
Step 8: Trim the seams along the bottom of the Stick and where the Stick meets the Bottom. Clip all curves within the seam allowance being sure not to clip seam.
Step 9: Turn the pillow right side out and use a wooden chopstick or bodkin to gently push out the corners and smooth the rounded seams. Turn the fabric at the opening inside and give the entire pillow cover a good press with the iron.
Step 10: Using small amounts of fiber fill at a time, begin filling the pillow. Use your fingers or the wooden chopstick to help push the fill into the narrow tip of the Stick. Once the pillow is filled to your preferred firmness, use a needle and matching thread to slip stitch the opening in the Popsicle Middle closed.
