Elegance & Elephants latest pattern, The Bohemian Babydoll Dress and Top Pattern, is a summer favorite here in our house. My daughter and I love the style of the dress for its simplicity, plus it's fuss free to sew and wear thanks to the no closure design. Ella has been wearing this nautical version of the Bohemian Babydoll dress for almost two months now (in rotation with other clothes, of course)!
Following the measurement chart, I chose the size 6 dress for Ella. The fit is just perfect!
The high-low hem is the first of its kind that I can recall sewing. This is a very subtle feature in the Bohemian Babydoll Dress Pattern and provides a simple way of adding a little more interest to the dress. This makes me want to add a contrast hem band on all her dresses! So fun!
The bodice is designed with enough ease to make pulling the dress on and off over your child's head comfortable and oh so easy. The armscyes are contoured the perfect amount to give your child sufficient movement while providing modest coverage. Plus, the high-low curves of the front and back bodice make the detailing of this dress stand out from the typical gathered skirt dress.
This particular Bohemian Babydoll Dress is made with a black and white quilting cotton for the bodice and is lined with a white 100% cotton batiste. The gathered skirt is sewn from a chambray fabric called Black Nautique Chambray by Robert Kaufman. I purchased mine at The Fabric Studio.
While the pattern specifies wovens, I've even sewn up a modified Bohemian Babydoll Top using knit. I'll be sharing photos of it in a future post soon!
