Children's Corner Baby Boy Bubble Rompers

Recently I was contacted by a long-time family friend to ask if I would consider sewing some baby boy bubble rompers for her new grandson.  I searched online for the perfect bubble romper pattern based on a photograph she sent me, and what I found was the Taylor Pattern by The Children's Corner!  Since the pattern only comes in paper form, it was lucky for me that I was able to drive to The Children's Corner Store and pick up the pattern the next day!

Then I had to wait a few days for two of the fabric prints to arrive in the mail.  My friend had chosen the sailboat print (Don't Be Crabby Sailboats in Nautical) and the animal print (Michael Miller's It's A Boy Thing Zoology in Dirt Brown), but I couldn't find either locally.  I ordered these fabrics plus some 100% cotton white batiste for the lining from Fabric.com which all arrived within a few days.

For the third baby boy bubble romper, she chose to go with a light blue football embroidered seersucker fabric that I already had in my stash.  I bought it a year or two ago at Hancock Fabrics, but I don't think they carry this print anymore.  Her family pulls for Auburn just like Ella and I do! War Eagle!

When deciding on the size romper to sew for her grandson, she sent me measurements to make sure the leg openings would fit his chunky little thighs! Don't you just love little baby rolls?!  I know these rompers are going to look so much cuter with little baby Mack wearing them!

Based on her grandson's measurements and comparing them to the pattern sizing chart, she chose to go with the 9 month size.  The Taylor Pattern has snaps at the bottom for quick and easy diaper changes plus functioning buttons at the shoulders.  The button placement can be adjusted slightly if need be to give the baby more wear out of these bubble rompers as he grows.

I'm still waiting to hear from her about how they fit now!  Apparently the mail man left the package near their trash can where it wasn't discovered for almost a week! I'm so relieved that they found it before trash pick up!

Like I mentioned earlier, the Taylor Pattern only comes in paper form which is the case with all Children's Corner patterns.  In some ways, it was nice to go old school with this project, but I will admit that I found some of the markings on the pattern a little difficult to see.  Also, I've become quite accustom to having step-by-step photographs and/or illustrations that accompany the written instructions for assembly.  After making the first bubble romper and figuring it all out, the second and third were a breeze to put together though, and from everything I've heard from friends who have used Children's Corner patterns before, the sizing is spot on.

I have a skirt pattern I purchased at the Children's Corner a few weeks ago.  I just need to find the perfect fabric to make it.  The Children's Corner Store is so cute and filled with so many yummy, unique fabrics. Now that I know they aren't only about heirloom style clothing for children, I'll be making frequent visits for supplies and inspiration!

Here's one last look at the trifecta of baby boy bubble rompers!

Size:  9 month
Difficulty:  Advanced beginner to Intermediate
Cotton Football Embroidered Seersucker from my fabric stash
Fit:  TBD
Would I sew this again:  Yes!  The pattern even has a girl version!

I wrapped up all three rompers in this neat little fabric gift bag that I made.  Check back in a few days for a free tutorial on how you can make these fabric gift and storage bags, too!  Update: Here's the link to the free sewVery Simple Fabric Gift & Storage Bag Tutorial!

Thanks for stopping by!  Have fun sewing!

  1. They are all so cute!!! Funny enough, I made my baby boy a romper last week, using a blue striped fabric that is almost the same as yours.

  2. Thankfully, the package didn't get wet and the rompers were fine. They are a little big on her grandson, but she said he'd be able to wear them well into the fall.

  5. I'm in the middle of sewing the girl version of Taylor. I'm on the step that says to sew the piping/ bias tape to the RIGHT SIDE of the romper. Is this correct? I'm search for some kind of video on how to do this and am not having much luck.

    1. Yes, you match the raw edge of the piping or bias to the raw edge of the right side of the romper. If using piping, make sure to use your zipper foot to sew it on do you can get close to the cording. I'll try to find a tutorial link to post for you.
