Fantasia Fashion

Recently, Sara Lawson from Sew Sweetness announced the upcoming release of her newest fabric collection for Art Gallery Fabrics--Fantasia! When she offered to send me some of the prints to try out, I didn't hesitate to say yes! From the two prints Sara sent me, I was able to create this lovely Fantasia Fashion for Ella to wear this Spring!

First of all, these fabrics are absolutely dreamy in all ways imaginable! I predict the unicorn print is going to be wildly popular with both moms and daughters.

The top is the September Tunic Pattern (affiliate link) from Too Sweets, and I sewed this size 7/8 using just a yard of Unicorn Fable Sageplant voile that Ella adores! This fabric is so soft and so wonderful to sew! Makes me want this top in my size!

This was the first time that I've sewn the September Tunic, and I was a little surprised that the pattern did not call for the bodice to be lined. I debated whether or not to use a single fold binding for the neckline as the pattern called for, but instead, I opted to line the bodice with some white batiste. I'm so glad I did!

I also added some lightweight interfacing to the areas where the buttons and buttonholes were sewn on the back of the top. Despite the addition of the interfacing, the buttonholes still pulled at the threads in the voile a little. After I noticed this while sewing the first buttonhole, I thought my needle must be dull, but even changing the needle did not improve this on the next buttonhole. I think if the buttonholes had been sewn vertically, perhaps this would not have been as noticeable. Any ideas?

I just love the narrow hem I sewed along the sleeves and the bottom of the tunic. Narrow hems just add more femininity to garments constructed from such fine fabrics as voile, silk, batiste, or organza.

The leggings are the ever-popular Go To Leggings Pattern (affiliate link) from Go To Patterns. It's been a while since I've used this pattern to make Ella a pair of leggings, and I'm not sure why! This pattern is terrific and offers so many options.

For this pair of Go To Leggings, I sewed the size 7 with the ruched bottoms using Sara's Miniature Hills in Metal knit fabric.

This fabric is ideal for leggings since it has a touch of lycra or spandex in it, giving it the perfect amount of stretch. I received a yard of this knit print, and since it was 60" wide, it only took about half the width of the fabric to make the leggings. I think I have enough to make her some shorts for summer, too!

Ella loved wearing her new Fantasia outfit all day long. She said she definitely felt like she was in a fairy tale!

Thank you, Sara, for the fabrics! I loved sewing them, and Ella definitely loves wearing her new Fantasia Fashion!

Be sure to check out Sara's entire Fantasia collection by Art Gallery Fabrics. I know I'll be purchasing more of this collection soon!

Have FUN sewing!
